Home sweet home. Last night, I relished being back at the Berlin AWS User Group, engaging in discussions about the benefits and challenges of running relational databases on AWS. The title and abstract of my presentation are provided below.
Balancing Acts: A Developer’s Journey with RDS
The era when a web application could only choose RDS for MySQL as a relational database on AWS is long gone. Today, an array of engines and deployment options, including RDS, Aurora, and serverless choices, is available. AWS provides many managed databases, each offering multiple options, pricing models, and deployment patterns: how does one strike a balance between maintaining a simple architecture and succumbing to FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)? When is it beneficial to use a serverless option? We will conclude with a simple unconventional demo.
